Neighborhood / Campus History
Urban Morphology
As illustrated in the accompanying series of maps, the southwest corner of San Francisco—south of Sloat Boulevard
and east of Junipero Serra Boulevard—was one of the last areas of the city to be developed. Agriculture continued in
the vicinity of the campus as late as 1948. The decade leading up to the mid-1950s saw the area’s final transformation,
with the construction of Stonestown, Parkmerced, and the core of the SFSU campus.
