Landscape / Open Space Framework
Views and Vistas
The accompanying "views and vistas" are organized into two groups, the first looking within the campus, and the second
looking at the campus edges from the outside. The first four views within campus look at the courtyard-type garden spaces
formed by buildings, and populated with mature trees, careful landscaping, and paved areas.
The next group of "within" views focuses on pedestrian movement, showing circulation spines and corridors. The final group
of "within" views includes three expansive green areas—the Quad, tennis courts, and stadium—and a residential green
space at Stonestown.
The views shown in the next grouping depict the campus edges and gateways as seen from the outside. Along both 19th
Avenue and Holloway, one sees the sides and backs of buildings, but rarely front doors and entries. This inward focus—at
the expense of a good relationship to neighbors—is typical along most of the perimeter of the campus. The gateways to
campus are either non-existent or poorly defined, at best marked by a tree grouping.
