19th Avenue Options – Realigned Muni
Although outside the purview of the master plan, improvements to 19th Avenue are part of the long-term vision for the campus and district. As illustrated, options are proposed for improving pedestrian safety and accessibility by relocating the Muni M line and 28 bus line to the west side of 19th Avenue, adjacent to the campus. The redesign of 19th Avenue as a tree-lined boulevard in the tradition of the district’s green streets—Sunset, Font, and Junipero Serra—would calm traffic and enhance the face of the University.

Options were studied for improving safety and pedestrian accessibility at the intersection of Holloway and 19th Avenue. These include a grade-separated intersection where regional traffic on 19th Avenue diverts under Holloway retaining local traffic on the surface both in a round-about configuration as well as a traditional T-intersection. Also studied were non-grade-separated options that improve pedestrian safety by other means.
